Cleaning tracks on the computer

Sometimes we want to clean personal data that is stored in the computer.
Here you can learn some tips to clear and prevent to be tracked, it's very important clean private data on public computers.
Besides these precautions presented here, nothing is 100% secure when it comes to computers, so you should always be careful about your security.

Recent Files

Is in Recent Documents that will be saved all files and folders opened in the computer.

To clear this list click on Start, Run, type recent and press OK. A new window will open with a shortcut to all files that were accessed recently, you can choose what files delete or delete all at once (CTRL + A on an english operating system).

Browsing History

History is where is stored all the sites - list of links - we visited.

Internet Explorer - To delete the list in Internet Explorer open the program and click on the toolbar Tools, Internet Options and in the tab General click on Clear History. Also available on Tools, Delete browsing history.
You can change some settings to change the number of days to keep pages in history.
Instead of delete all history you can choose what to delete, click on the toolbar View, Explorer bars, History, in the left panel make a right click over the day or page an click Delete.

Mozilla Firefox - To delete the list in Firefox open the program and click on the toolbar Tools, Options and in the tab Privacy click on Clear your recent history.

Some browsers also supports Private browsing. Private Browsing allows you to browse the Internet without saving any information about which sites and pages you’ve visited.

This kind of behavior is similar to other browsers like Chrome or Opera.

Temporary files and cookies

Using the same steps of history, in Browsing History section click on Delete... it deletes images and other files that are saved to save time browsing pages.
Select the whatever you want and press delete. Cookies are used in "automatic logins", in sites that require passwords you will have to enter them again.

Files .LOG

It is common that some programs save activities or conversations (like chats), usually is stored in files *.log. To delete them go to Start, Search, choose "All files and folders" and make sure that the option "Search hidden files" is checked and search for *.Log.
Wait until the search finishes and pressing CTRL key check which files you want to delete.

The operating system will saving temporary files, it is normal that after a while the "trash" will accumulating, to clear these files go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup, select the drive and click OK.
